Crews searched Thursday for the body of a person who jumped from the Tappan Zee Bridge overnight.
Police say they received reports of the jumper at around 12:30 a.m. today. They say two separate witnesses, one on the bridge and the other on a tugboat, saw the person jump from the bridge. Witnesses say the person who jumped off the bridge hit something on the way down, and then ended up going into the water. The person's car was left on the bridge.
The Rockland County Sheriff's Office marine unit, along with the Nyack Fire Department boat, and the Tarrytown Fire Department, assisted with the search on the river. The Rockland County Sheriff's Office also had a helicopter to assist the search. The search was called off at 1:54 a.m.
They resumed the search as soon as it became light out Thursday morning.
State police say they think the person is a 36-year-old man from Irvington who told his family he was going to kill himself.
