Crews rescue 2 people from Yonkers house fire
Officials say two people were rescued in Yonkers Sunday morning after a house fire.
They say a basement apartment caught fire around 10: 45 a.m. on Bruce Avenue, and that the two people were unable to escape from the basement windows.
Yonkers Fire Department Assistant Chief Edward Cucolo said the building was not up to code and the windows should have been larger, but crews were able to pull out the windows and pull the victims to safety.
The victims were hospitalized for smoke inhalation.
Officials say a lithium battery from an electric bike could have been the cause of the fire.
