Broken windows and shattered glass lay on the sidewalk on Hunts Point Ave. steps from where a fire broke out Thursday night.
The FDNY says they responded to a fire on the third floor inside 721 Hunts Point Ave. just after 11p.m. on Thursday.
Seventy-eight firefighters and crew members battled the flames.
The fire left two people hurt. The FDNY says one person suffered serious injuries, while a firefighter experienced minor injuries.
Both victims were taken to a local hospital and are expected to be ok.
An eyewitness tells News 12 after the fire broke out, they saw a man climbing down the fire escape screaming "my daughter, my daughter."
The neighbor says once the man reached the ground, he was covered in burns that spread throughout his head and arms.
The American Red Cross says they are assisting one family including three adults and one child.
Fire marshals are investigating the cause of the fire.
