A fire broke out at a multifamily home in Mount Vernon on Thursday.

Several families live in the multi family home, located on the 100 block of S 8th Avenue.

Officials say there is major damage to the house, and one firefighter sustained minor injuries.

Residents say work was being done on the roof when the fire started.

While the cause is under investigation, it is currently believed to be accidental.

The Red Cross is assisting those who are displaced.
