Mount Pleasant police said two people were injured in a crane collapse Friday at a construction site of an Amazon warehouse in Hawthorne.
Police said it happened at 12:30 p.m. on the site on Route 9A, also known as Saw Mill River Road. The road was closed but has since reopened.
News 12 was told they are both construction workers and one had a partial amputation to the leg.
The Mount Pleasant Police Department was quick to arrive on the scene and said other construction workers pitched in to help their colleagues.
The two injured were conscious when taken from the scene and were taken to Westchester County Medical Center. Their status was not immediately clear.
Police said they were still working to rule out any criminal liability but that there was no indication of it as of Friday evening.
One eyewitness told News 12 he saw the braces of the crane start to crumble and it looked like a building was imploding but it was just the crane. He added that felt the ground shaking and said the moment of impact sounded like a building exploding.
Town Supervisor Fulgenzi said no work will be done at the site until officials give the OK. He added that work on the site has been going on for about a year and it was slated to open in the fall.
The building is set to become an Amazon warehouse with almost 200,000 square feet of combined space.
News 12 attempted to contact the construction company which has some signage at the site but had yet to answer as of Friday evening.
OSHA was on the scene earlier in the day.
