The superintendent of Arlington Central School District says COVID-19 has sidelined most of the district’s bus drivers, forcing officials to bring only K-8 students back to in-person learning this week.
High school students are expected to make their return to class next week.
"You get to the point where everybody in the garage is out driving – the mechanics, the dispatchers – every single person we have available to drive is driving a route right now," said Superintendent David Moyer.
The school district told News 12 they started the school year down about 25 drivers.
Some parents expressed their frustration online about another week of remote learning. Moyer said he understands where they are coming from.
“I think it would be remiss on my part to not acknowledge all the efforts being made to keep the kids in school," he said.
