Three people were taken to the hospital after in head-collision in Irvington this morning.
Police say the driver was heading north on Broadway when he crossed the double yellow line and hit a car that was heading south. The car then struck a tree and wound up in the embankment.
The Irvington and Dobbs Ferry fire departments used the Jaws of Life to remove the occupants of both cars. A couple in one car and the driver of the other car were taken to the hospital with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
Police say the accident could have been much worse. "There's a steep embankment down there and they would have gone into a gulch down there too," says Irvington Police Chief Michael Cerone. "That, I think, would have been definitely deadly at that point. This is known to be a bad curve, we've had fatalities here before."
It's not clear yet whether slick roads may have led to the accident.
