As COVID cases continue to rise from coast to coast and in the Hudson Valley, there is a growing push to get the unvaccinated the shot.
According to Westchester County officials, the number of current active COVID cases are twice as high as they were last month, but hospitalizations are relatively low.
As a result, the county is preparing to open up more pop-up vaccination clinics in some of the communities that are most in need, like Mount Vernon.
On July 19, 823 New Yorkers tested positive for COVID-19, and there were 34 new cases reported in Westchester. There were  17 new cases in Orange County, and nine in Rockland.
According to county health officials, nearly 80% of all adults in Westchester have at least one COVID-19 shot.
The most recent positivity rate for the Mid- Hudson region stands at 0.99%. The statewide positivity rate is a bit higher at 1.18%.
Westchester County officials say, for now, there are no plans to bring back mask mandates or ramp up emergency safety protocols.
"We have not yet reached the point of that crisis sense that we might have but we're moving in the wrong direction in terms of total infections and so we're going to try and do everything we can to get more people vaccinated," Westchester County Executive George Latimer shared.
According to county health officials, Mount Vernon, Yonkers and New Rochelle are the top three communities in Westchester with the highest number of active cases within the last 14 days.
