Councilwoman Yadira Ramos-Herbert has declared victory in the Democratic primary for New Rochelle mayor.
Ramos-Herbert ran against County Legislator Damon Maher.
Democrats in the city have a more than 3-1 enrollment advantage, so the working assumption is that whoever came out on top in this primary has a strong chance of clinching the victory in November. It will be the first time in 16 years that there will be a new face in the mayor's office.
Ramos-Herbert is the designee of the Democratic party. She is a mother of two, has been a councilwoman since 2019 and is an associate dean at Columbia University Law School.
County Legislator Damon Maher has been on the county board for the past five years and practices law in New York City. Maher told News 12 he was feeling under the weather and would not be having an election night watch party.
Ramos-Herbert will take on City Councilman Louis Trangucci in November.
