Westchester County Executive George Latimer has signed the Earned Sick Leave Bill that passed the Legislature last week.
The new law requires any company with five or more employees to provide one-hour paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked.
Legislators say this law also benefits store owners, saying it will increase employee productivity.
"When employees come to work sick or distracted by illnesses, there productivity drops off," says Legislator Benjamin Boykin II.
Critics say their business could potentially suffer at the hand of the new law, saying that it would cut into employee bonuses and was an overreach by the county.
