A new plan to revamp Rye Playland could wind up costing taxpayers less money.
The new draft from Westchester County Board Chairman Michael Kaplowitz to revamp the aging the amusement park calls for the county's contribution to be lowered from $58 million to $30 million. That change would increase the amount that developer Standard Amusements would pay, from nearly $23 million to $30 million.
Without the alteration, it does not appear that the board would have enough votes to make the necessary repairs to the county-owned park that include the parking lot, fountain and electrical room.
Standard Amusements did not specifically comment on the new proposal, but did say that it looks forward to restoring Playland. It adds that the project is in the hands of the county board.
