The dangers of distracted driving were highlighted at Playland Park in Rye, where individuals were put through an Emergency Vehicle Operator Course while facing distractions.
Vehicles were equipped with cameras to record footage from inside the car, demonstrating drivers' behaviors.
Organizers stress the importance of raising awareness about hazardous driving behaviors.
"In the course, you will be able to take a ride and see how you need to be aware at all times and how just a second, either taking a call or looking at your phone, could lead to tragedy," says Christian Jackstadt, executive deputy commissioner of the New York state DMV.
The event was hosted by the Governor's Traffic Safety Committee, emphasizing the commitment to promoting safe driving practices and preventing accidents on the roadways.
