A program designed to help teaching assistants become certified teachers is showing strong results at Manhattanville University.

In 2024, the university received nearly $1 million to create an accelerated, cost-free pathway to a master's degree and teacher certification.

The program was developed to help address teacher shortages while creating opportunities for current teaching assistants to advance their careers.

Four students from the program's first cohort are expected to graduate this month.

A second group of five participants is now entering its second year.

The program is continuing to grow.

This fall, at least nine additional participants are expected to join, making it the largest cohort since the program began.

Officials say the initiative is helping create a pipeline of certified educators for local schools.
