A 16-year-old high school dropout is facing numerous charges after allegedly attacking his ex-girlfriend near her high school.
Spring Valley High School officials say the incident happened at around 10 a.m. when a 15-year-old girl was assaulted on her way to school by Savion Lewallen, a former Spring Valley High School student.
Lewallen allegedly attacked the victim in the woods near the school and took her cellphone. Police say she had an active restraining order against him because she was constantly rebuffing his advances.
The girl managed to escape and ran into the school to alert security guards. Officials placed the school on lockdown for about 45 minutes while police investigated.
Lewallen allegedly led police on a chase before they finally caught up with him in the woods by his house and arrested him.
The teen had previous trouble with law enforcement, officials say. Last week police searched for him after he escaped from Berkshire Farm, an upstate facility for youths. He also has a juvenile record.
Lewallen is facing a number of charges, including robbery, assault and strangulation. He will now be tried as an adult.
The victim did not suffer any serious injuries.
Lewallen went before a judge in Spring Valley Village Court Wednesday evening. He is being held on $75,000 bail and is due back in court in May.
