Nearly a week after a Yonkers woman?s body was found, police have charged her estranged husband with her death.
Mario Girau was arraigned Wednesday in the murder of 46-year-old Maria Montalvo-Girau. According to police, the mother of four was stabbed multiple times Friday while her 6-year-old son was in their Tuckahoe Road home.
Girau then took off with the boy, launching an Amber Alert. Police found Girau and the boy in the Bronx after the two were involved in a car accident. Girau has been in the hospital since the accident and was a person of interest in the murder.
Police say that Montalvo-Girau had an order of protection against her husband and that Mario Girau was arrested for violating that order in August. Girau is charged with second-degree murder as well as violating the order again.
