Disabled and elderly residents say they are trapped in their apartments at a co-op building in Yonkers due to a broken elevator.        

The people who live at the Parkview co-op building on Rumsey Road have started a petition to demand that the elevator be fixed as soon as possible.

They say the elevator on the south wing went has been out of service for more than a week.

Victor Clark, the president of the co-op, tells News 12 that shutting down the elevator was necessary, especially in the wake of the elevator accident in Manhattan a week ago that killed a man.

Residents say they weren't given proper notification of the elevator outage, and they just want the problem fixed.

"We are doing the best that we can, if we could have gotten it done faster or quicker we would have," says Clark.

Clark says the parts they are waiting on should arrive Tuesday and they will be immediately installed so the elevator can be put back in service.
