The New York state Department of Agriculture and Markets along with the state Health Department Friday urged consumers to heed a warning by the Food and Drug Administration and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention regarding apple sauce pouches containing high levels of lead.

Recalls of several products were initiated following four children that were found to have elevated blood lead levels, indicating potential acute lead toxicity. Seven cases have been found in five states.

New York is working with local health departments to determine if there are any cases of children with elevated blood lead levels with the recalled products.

The affected products are WanaBana Apple Cinnamon Fruit Puree Poches, Schnucks Applesauce Pouches (cinnamon flavor and variety pack) and Weis Cinnamon Applesauce Pouches.

The products were sold and distributed by Sam’s Club, Amazon and Dollar Tree.
