? Officials say a raging fire broke out at a Con Edison substation early Wednesday morning, forcing some residents out of their homes.
The blaze broke out at around 5:30 a.m. at the Dunwoodie substation on Kingston Avenue. Officials say thick smoke filled the air as firefighters poured water and foam on the transformer.
Neighbors say they were told to leave their homes for a short time until emergency crews got a handle on the fire. Officials say there was also a concern about toxins being released into the air.
Con Edison officials say they are still trying to figure out what caused the unit to blow. Customers should not be affected as crews continue to work.
There were no reported injuries from the incident.
