David Carr found his daughter unconscious on Easter Sunday -- in a bed next to her mother, Kathleen Dymes, who was also unresponsive.
Lacey Carr, 6, was later pronounced dead of unknown causes. Dymes remains hospitalized.
David Carr had largely remained quiet on the tragedy until he released an open letter to friends and family this week. His grief is "overwhelming" he wrote, after thanking supporters for sharing their memories of his daughter.
Many neighbors say Lacey Carr's suspicious death is on their minds almost daily. Residents say Croton is a close-knit community that has rallied in support of both Carr's and Dymes' families.
Police say the investigation remains open, and they are waiting on results from Lacey Carr's toxicology report. They also plan to interview Dymes once she sufficiently recovers.
Dymes remains at Phelps Memorial Hospital, where officials say she is in "fair" condition.
