An event was held Saturday to raise awareness for gun violence at Yonkers Riverfront Library.
According to national fatal injury reports, more than 100 Americans are killed by gun violence every day.
A 13-year-old Mount Vernon girl named Shamoya McKenzie became part of that statistic in 2016 on the way home from basketball practice. She was sitting in her mother’s car when she was hit by a stray bullet.
Shamoya’s mother, Nadine McKenzie, was among the survivors of gun violence at the event.
