The rain-free forecast has been giving Brooklyn residents the chance to enjoy more days outside. But for a group of community gardeners at Lentol Garden in Greenpoint, it's causing havoc to their plants. A lack of rain over the last several weeks has created a serious drought.

"So it's often hard for community gardens to water their plants without being able to tap into something like a fire hydrant," says Spencer Harbo, environmental design specialist in the Green Space Program at Grow NYC.

The lack of rain is also forcing gardeners to visit the garden more often to make sure their plants get the water that they need.

"It's slowed down a lot of plants in the last couple of months," says community gardener Aaron Howard. "It was hard to even notice that we were in a drought because it wasn't that hot. But it was definitely dry. So that means we'd have to water more."

Thanks to rainwater harvest systems, gardeners say they are doing their best to care for their plants.

They're hoping more rain will come soon so they can have enough water for their plants during the next dry season.
