The White Plains Common Council recently adopted new regulations that will result in sweeping changes for taxis.
Mayor Tom Roach and the city's Common Council passed an ordinance that allows riders to hail cabs in the downtown area, including Mamaroneck Avenue.
The new regulations will also provide taximeters, printed receipts, contact information and how much they must pay.
Cab drivers say they applaud the new law and hope it will bring back some business.
In addition, all the city cabs will be painted white and will have a specific symbol. Those are the only cabs that passengers can hail.
