Colleagues remember woman killed in Bronx River Parkway crash as ‘an exceptional correction officer’

Co-workers told News 12 she was someone who always brought a smile to the workplace due to her love for her job.

Police have identified the victim involved in a single motorcycle crash on the Bronx River Parkway in Scarsdale on Saturday afternoon as Eleanor Birrittella, a Westchester County Correction Officer.
Correction Commissioner Joseph Spano has since released a statement saying in part, “by all accounts, Eleanor was an exceptional correction officer who was respected by both her colleagues and the individuals in our care.”
Co-workers told News 12 she was someone who always brought a smile to the workplace due to her love for her job.
Birrittella joined the Westchester County Department of Correction in October 2021 and worked more than 17 years with the Westchester County Board of Elections.
Her family also has deep roots in the correction department.
