Officials say a New City home that was targeted by gunman this weekend may have been in violation of codes in Clarkstown.
Clarkstown Supervisor George Hoehmann says the owner of 3 Turnberry Court was renting the home out but did not apply for a short-term rental permit.
“In this situation, it’s under review, we're going to be going into justice court and there's potentially as many as four violations."
Each violation has a fine of up to $5,000 attached.
“We have strong laws because we want to maintain the quality of life for our residents,’ Hoehmann says.
The town board is expected to gather on March 8 to talk about the future of rules for short-term rentals.
Hoehmann says he expects there to be a unanimous vote to ban future short-term rentals in Clarkstown.
“People need to know and expect that we are going to protect their single-family neighborhood and that's exactly what we're going to do here. Not just with this ban, but the way in which we enforce the code,” he says.
As for the investigation of Saturday’s shooting, one of the suspects has been identified as 24-year-old Armani Miller of Brooklyn, who faced federal charges for COVID-19 relief fraud.
Miller also faced robbery charges in Brooklyn from an alleged incident last October. He was out on bond in the federal case when that robbery occurred.
News 12 reached out to the homeowner in New City but has not heard back yet.
