The Palisades Mall is one step closer to expanding - thanks to voters.
Election Day results showed that 60% voted in favor of lifting restrictions preventing the mall from utilizing dead space and reconfiguring its layout.
While there are still absentee ballots that need to be counted, Clarkstown Supervisor George Hoehmann doesn't believe they'll impact the result.
“It doesn’t mean the mall can just swing hammers and building stuff. It means if this now indeed holds up, they can go in front of the planning board, which they would need to do, to be able to make any changes to utilize additional space," he says.
This is the second time residents voted on the referendum - the first vote in 2002 was shot down.
Developer Pyramid Management is waiting to comment until the vote is finalized.
