Families of young soccer players are hopeful they'll be playing on new turf fields this fall instead of muddy fields.
Supporters of the Clarkstown Soccer Club planned to crash the town board meeting Tuesday to urge board members to fund an upgrade for the field at Zukor Park to turf, not grass.
Community members say the fields are currently patchy, uneven and often muddy.
Administrators told the group that the issue could go before the town board for discussion and approval by early February.
Town Supervisor George Hoehmann says the town council is looking at a revised plan to fund multiple turf fields around town.
"We're meeting with all of our sports leagues and the town will be looking to undertake this and expect to be able to announce something and having it come before the town board in the near future," he says.
There's no official figure on the cost of the project, but it would be in the millions.
