A heightened terror alert issued by the Department of Homeland Security ahead of the holiday weekend has officials taking extra precautions, but residents haven't been discouraged from heading out to watch fireworks.
A crowd gathered at Nanuet High School in Clarkstown Wednesday for this year's Independence Day fireworks show.
Local police said in spite of the alert, there was no "actionable threat" to spectators.
Organizers say more than 1,200 fireworks were lit in the show.
