The City of Yonkers will pay $1.5 million to the estate of a woman who was killed during a high-peed police chase in 2015.

The City Council approved the settlement this week.

Police were chasing a stolen van on Warburton Avenue when the teenage driver crossed the double yellow line and drove the wrong way before colliding head on with a car driven by 46-year-old Sharlene Stinson.

Stinson was pronounced dead at the scene. The teenager driver died a week later, while a second teenager survived.

The family filed a lawsuit in 2016 claiming the police had a reckless disregard for public safety.
