Christmas tradition resumes at reopened Middletown department store
It’s been decades since Santa Claus visited an old department store in downtown Middletown. As of this Friday, the tradition will resume!
Santa will be at the “New Middletown” Department Store (the old Tompkins building) on Friday, starting at 3 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, starting at noon. The business, located at 29 North Main St., had its grand opening with much local fanfare last month.
Since then, former Thompkins customer 74-year-old Ruth Elaine Miller, from the Village of Florida, stopped in to share photos of herself as a child with Santa inside the building in the 1950s.
Store representatives tell News 12 they are happy to once again resume this tradition for the community and help Middletown revitalize their shopping district.
