A father was stabbed to death inside a Grand Concourse hotel across the street from where his children lived.
Richard Rivera, 45, was stabbed between the first and second floors of the building on Sunday. Police say they found him lying on the stairwell inside the hotel with a stab wound to his chest at around 5:30 p.m.
Marilyn Perez says her father's girlfriend, who lived inside the building with him, saw the entire incident happen. She told Rivera's daughters that the suspect, 53-year-old Eddie Davis, knocked on the door to their apartment and pretended to be security. She says he then pulled out a knife and stabbed Rivera.
Rivera's girlfriend says she called EMS, who responded immediately and transported Rivera to Saint Barnabas Hospital. He was pronounced dead on arrival.
Davis, who police confirm also lives in the building, was arrested on scene. He is facing charges of second-degree murder and first-degree manslaughter.
Perez says she does not know Davis nor understands why he would allegedly commit this crime. She says her father was a good man and had no enemies.
Authorities say they will continue to investigate Rivera's death.
News 12 reached out to the building's management but it was unavailable for comment.
