Town of Poughkeepsie police say a 6-year-old was stabbed in Poughkeepsie Saturday night.

Police responded to a residence on Creek Road for a report of a child with multiple stab wounds.

Officials say a second child was at the residence and witnessed the attack and then flagged down passing motorists for help.

Police have arrested 30-year-old Karen Rendon in connection to the stabbing. News12 is told that she tried to run away, but was later caught.

Rendon is charged with assault, criminal possession of a weapon and endangering the welfare of a child.

Police say the child is in stable condition and is expected to recover.
