A child is recovering after jumping out of a second-story window to escape a fire in Monmouth County.

Officials say that the boy jumped right into the arms of a police officer after a fire broke out at an Asbury Park home on Monday morning.

The fire was reported just before 9 a.m. on Prospect Avenue.

Officials say the child is being treated for smoke inhalation but is otherwise unharmed.

The American Red Cross is assisting five people from four families who need temporary lodging, food and clothing.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
