Three people are in custody after Suffolk police say they stole three gold chains from R & S Diamond Exchange jewelry store in Rocky Point Saturday afternoon.

Detectives say they received the call around 2 p.m. Employees at the pizzeria saw them disperse into the woods after they arrived.

Karan Punia says he was working at the neighboring Rocky Point Pizza all afternoon and didn’t hear any sort of disturbance until police showed up.

“It does scare us,” Punia said. “Everybody was just here eating lunch, having a good time, there were kids and everybody was in here. And it just happened.”

They say it’s scary that it happened right next door and it could just as easily have been their own business.

Police arrested the three suspects for grand larceny after the incident.

They are set to be arraigned in Central Islip on Sunday.
