Administrators and teachers in the East Ramapo school district are mourning the loss of a beloved elementary school principal.
Patricia Simmons, the longtime principal of Fleetwood Elementary School in Chestnut Ridge, died of cancer on Dec. 27.
The 63-year-old was viewed as a fierce student advocate during her 14-year tenure.
Grief counselors were at Fleetwood Elementary Monday to help students and teachers cope with the loss.
A memorial service for Simmons is scheduled to be held Saturday at First Baptist Church in Tarrytown.
