Chester breaks ground on senior center
There will soon be a new place for the elderly to stay active in the town of Chester.
Town and county officials broke ground Monday morning on a new senior center on Laroe Road.
Leaders of Chester's Golden Age Club says the 500-square foot facility will be a big upgrade from the space where they have their meetings now. “We are in the basement of the library and it's not the greatest place,” says Hank Pierron. “It's a big deal we've been waiting for 20 years a long, long time. We are underneath the library now and it's getting crowded,” adds Lois Gordon.
The project is expected to cost more than $1 million. Orange County contributed $225,000 in community development block funds.
