The Department of Sanitation says it is making efforts to clean up the mess after chemical sand was left spread on one Wakefield street.
Wakefield resident Joe Amato says this all started Oct. 24, when a sanitation truck broke down and released hydraulic fuel down the street.
A truck sweeper came and left absorbent sand to soak up the fuel that was left.
Amato said this can be dangerous for other people on the block and their pets.
DSNY said, "After removing derelict vehicles in the area, we had greater access to the street and we were able to sweep it. There is still one remaining vehicle that needs to be removed, and once it is, we will sweep the street again."
