Misdemeanor charges against a New Rochelle teen claiming police brutality have been reduced by a court Thursday.
The charge reduction comes just three days after Demetrius Hazelton's family and the NAACP announced a lawsuit against the New Rochelle Police Department.
According to Hazelton, whose father is a New Rochelle detective, he and several friends were stopped April 13 by police in the parking lot of Bethesda Baptist Church on Lincoln Avenue. Police say Hazelton nearly started a fight and mocked officers. The police commissioner says Hazelton was arrested because of his actions and attitude and that race had nothing to do with the arrest.
