The Chappaqua man charged with killing his wife got a new lawyer Friday so his former attorney can testify on his behalf.

Authorities claim Carlos Perez-Olivo, a disbarred lawyer, killed his wife in Nov. 2006 and tried to pin the crime on an unknown assailant. Perez-Olivo told police a masked gunman, possibly a former client, ran the couple off the road when they were driving home from Manhattan. He said the gunman got into their SUV, shot his wife dead and then shot him in the stomach.

On Friday, attorney Robert Buckley told the judge he had a conflict of interest. He said he?s known the couple for years and is close to Perez-Olivo. According to Buckley, he?ll likely defend his ex-client?s innocence if he takes the stand.

Perez-Olivo?s new attorney, Christopher McClure, said he is reviewing the case. Perez-Olivo is in jail on $1 million bail.

The case will go back before the judge on Feb. 29.
