Detective Captain Stephen Fitzpatrick is retiring after 40 years on the job.

Most recently, Det. Capt. Fitzpatrick was the Commanding Officer of the department’s Homicide Squad.

"There are so many memories, so many good things, it's hard to let go. I'm sure my honorees will tell you the same thing, but it's time. It's time to close this chapter," Fitzpatrick tells News 12.

Three other longtime members were part of Thursday’s ceremonial walkout, Chiefs Thomas Corona, Joseph Guerra, and William Leahy.
