The owner of a Rockland home that was burglarized is sharing his story to help catch the suspects and prevent further robberies in his neighborhood.
James Shaw says his Ring doorbell captured the incident on video at his Stony Point home Monday afternoon.
The video shows a man walking to the front door, posing as a delivery driver about to drop off a toy car. He knocks and checks to see if anyone is home.
The man speaks in Spanish to someone on the phone, looks around a few minutes more, then leaves. A few minutes later, two different men then break into the dining room window.
"This was organized. They knew exactly what they were doing. They came in through the window, they didn't touch anything on the first floor. Not a thing. Not a room. Went right upstairs to all the bedrooms,” Shaw says.
The incident took about 30 minutes, and the thieves took off with two safes and countless expensive pieces of jewelry. Shaw says they also “took away our feeling of safety."
He adds that he hopes sharing what he went through will prevent other from becoming the next victim.
"I don't want this to happen to anyone else,” he says. “If anybody knows anything about these guys, first of all, let the Stony Point police know. Second, just beware. Watch your Ring when the alarms go off. The Ring is a great tool but we ignored it."
Stony Point police say they are investigating the incident.
