The U.S. has surpassed one million new, confirmed cases of COVID-19 since the start of November.
The grim milestone comes amid a nationwide surge of
infections that shows no sign of slowing.
Health officials say deaths are climbing again and are
reaching an average of 930 a day.
But experts say medical and testing advances give them
reason to believe the nation is now better equipped to deal with the virus.
In New
York, the daily infection rate has jumped to 3%. At last check, the state
saw nearly 4,000 new cases. Hospitalizations are at 1,500 and 32 lives were lost to the virus.
Cases are
on the rise across the Mid-Hudson region. Here are the latest totals by
county:
- 242 in Westchester (4% positivity rate)
- 138 in Rockland (2 deaths being reported)
- 88 in Orange
- 26 in Putnam
- 23 in Ulster
- 20 in Sullivan
