Authorities say a police officer for the town of Carmel was killed in a motorcycle crash.

Police in Putnam County say Gary Pietropaolo was off-duty when his motorcycle collided with a mail truck on Route 301 in Kent Thursday evening.

Pietropaolo, 29, of Fishkill, was flown by emergency helicopter to the hospital.

He later died after going into cardiac arrest.
