A Carmel man has been arrested for allegedly driving drunk with a young child in the car in Dutchess County.

New York State Police say it happened on I-84 in the town of Fishkill Sunday night.

Troopers pulled over a car and started speaking with the driver, identified as 27-year-old Emilio Caal Ixcotoy.

A 3-year-old child was also inside of the car at the time.

Troopers say Ixcotoy showed signs of intoxication and failed the sobriety tests given to him.

He was arrested and the child was safely turned over to a sober third party.

Ixcotoy was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child passenger under 16, or Leandra's Law.

He was released and is set to appear in the Town of Fishkill court next month.
