A 93-year-old World War II veteran was scammed out of nearly $7,000 in charges by his caretaker, his family says.
The caretaker, 61-year-old Clare McKenzie, of Mount Vernon, had been taking care of Fred Intrieri for over four years. Intrieri’s daughter says the woman had been using his debit card without his knowledge, ripping up statements he would receive in the mail from QVC.
It wasn't until Intrieri's daughter went through the mail and found the statements, issued to a debit card he barely used.
The account was under the name of her sister, who passed away 10 years ago. When the daughter asked about where the ordered items were being shipped, she made the connection to McKenzie.
McKenzie has been arrested and faces two counts of larceny and two counts of identity theft. She is expected back in court this Friday.
