Crews in Orange County helped rescue a woman whose car plunged into the Cromline Creek.
The incident happened around 1 p.m. Friday off Tuthill Road in Blooming Grove. A woman wound up trapped on the roof of her car.
Washingtonville Fire Chief Gary Hearn says it took more than an hour to remove the woman from the car roof by using an aerial ladder. Crews set up restraining nets downstream in case the woman fell into the water.
Although the creek is only about 4 feet deep, officials say the woman would have put her life in jeopardy if she tried to swim ashore.
Firefighters say the woman is from Blooming Grove and that she remained calm during the entire rescue. She was not injured and declined further treatment once back on shore.
There was no word on how exactly the car wound up in the creek.
