A small campaign contribution is raising big questions in the race for mayor of Yonkers.

A New York Post investigation found incumbent Democratic Mayor Mike Spano received a $350 contribution from the Yonkers Police Athletic League last fall. According to federal rules, a charitable group can have its tax exempt status revoked for making political contributions.

While the Spano campaign and the head of the PAL board say the money was returned voluntarily Tuesday morning, mayoral candidates have gone on the offensive.

"He continues to demonstrate that he has no preparation on how to govern and how to manage fiscal matters," says mayoral hopeful Fred Hernandez

Hernandez says the contribution is more proof Spano is unfit to manage the city's larger financial responsibilities.
