An Orangeburg military camp, which now houses a WWII museum, is being remembered for its role in D-Day as the 70th anniversary nears.

Camp Shanks served as the staging grounds for 1.3 million Americans who were on their way to Europe. Seventy-five percent of those men were part of the Normandy invasion. The camp also held German and Italian prisoners of war.

Inside the museum there are images of life at Camp Shanks. The pictures show how the soldiers lived in cramped bunk beds.
