Sen. Charles E. Schumer has introduced a bill that would close a loophole that prevents child care groups from gaining access to job applicants' criminal records from other states or the FBI.
Schumer and Rep. Nita Lowey gathered in Scarsdale Monday to discuss the legislation, known as the Child Protection Improvements Act of 2009.
"Not only do we have to pass the legislation, we have to publicize it," Lowey says. "We have to have an 800 number so everyone can feel confident when they go to work."
