One of Dutchess
County's busiest streets is getting a much-needed facelift as road work
kicked off Tuesday.
Businesses along Market Street in the City of Poughkeepsie say they have no problem saying goodbye to the pothole-ridden
street.
From start to finish, city officials tell News
12 that the project’s total cost is a little more than $87,000.
The
city says it is also happy this project is coming to fruition.
"This is a substantial project that will
make a noticeable difference to city of Poughkeepsie residents and to so many
other people who use historic Market Street to get to and from where
they are going in the city. Such a prominent street deserves to look its best,
and we are looking forward to completing this project for the community,”
says John Penney, director of community engagement for Poughkeepsie.
The
new and improved Market Street should be making its debut next week.
If you're visiting the area, city officials tell
News 12 that parking on the street is prohibited for the rest of the week.
