Downtown Bronxville is a long way from the turmoil on the Lebanese-Israeli border, but residents voiced their concerns about the tenuous cease-fire Sunday. Bronxville resident Herb Homes says he doesn?t believe the cease-fire will hold up. Shelia Stoltz fears there is too much tension in the area. News from the region seems to echo their concerns. Israel announced plans to reject peacekeeping troops from countries that do not have formal diplomatic relations with Israel. This means a no to troops from Indonesia, Malaysia and Bangladesh--the only countries so far that have volunteered resources. Gary Pretlow, the Democratic state assemblyman representing Yonkers and Mount Vernon, says he hopes the cease-fire holds. He says the alternative is just too awful to contemplate. But many other residents said they are pessimistic about the chances for peace in the region.
